Does this work with scanned PDFs?

No. This tool extracts text from text-based PDFs only. Scanned PDFs (which are essentially images) require OCR (optical character recognition) which needs server-side processing. If your PDF was created from a word processor, it should work fine.

How are headings detected?

Accepted Answer

The tool analyzes font sizes across the document and compares them to the median body text size. Text significantly larger than the body is treated as h1, moderately larger as h2, and slightly larger or bold short text as h3.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

Accepted Answer

No. All processing happens in your browser using PDF.js (Mozilla's open-source PDF rendering library). Your file never leaves your device.

What about tables and images in the PDF?

Currently, this tool extracts text content only. Tables may appear as plain text without Markdown table formatting. Images in the PDF are not extracted. For complex documents, manual cleanup may be needed.

Is there a file size limit?

The maximum file size is 100MB. Large files may take longer to process since everything runs in your browser. For very large documents, processing time depends on your device's capabilities.

Can I convert password-protected PDFs?

No. Password-protected or encrypted PDFs cannot be processed. You'll need to remove the password protection first before converting.
